If things still aren't working properly, there may be some other reason that is messing up the programming. There's also the iron pot glitch, where you drop an iron pot in front of a wall or door, then shout the Whirlwind Sprint at it, and sometimes you can glitch through. If you are still having problems, you might try the wooden plate glitch where you drop a wooden plate, pick it up and hold it at eye level and then rush forward to get through the door. Once he opens the gate, though, Serana doesn't just go in, if I recall correctly, you have to go forward and enter the castle yourself and then she follows. If this isn't working for you, you might try walking around a bit, interacting with Serana and/or the watchman, try to get her closer to the gate, and/or just waiting until the dialog is triggered between Serana and the watchman. The watchman will give you a hard time, but then he should eventually see Serana and let you in.
She will pause on the bridge and you will need to have dialog with her about her being nervous or something like that (may or may not involve an actual dialog tree but just listening to her ramble), and then she will wait while you turn around and go up to the gate. She will follow you up the bridge, but it is a little glitchy (I've done it with two different characters on the PS3 and had problems both times).
